My life was going along fine without having a fold up bike – or so I thought – just a few glitches here and there. I didn’t know of anyone who had one and what is more I had never even considered buying one – I do like to cycle but mostly just to have a bit of exercise on a sunny day and that’s really only now and again. However, all that was to change when my partner finally got tired of hearing my gripes about my commute to work (one of my aforementioned glitches) and bought me a folding bike for my birthday. What a surprise! It’s made such a difference to my working day. I now cycle a considerable distance, mostly on cycle paths which is pleasant, and then once the journey becomes a bit more challenging in terms of traffic I continue by tube. My bike folds up easily and it’s no problem to carry it on to the tube. It doesn’t get in the way of the other commuters in the way a standard bike can; a standard bike would not be something I would even consider commuting with. I can then get off the tube further along the line and do some more cycling if I feel I want to or I can stay on the tube – and surprisingly enough I get off early more often than continuing on the tube; I must be getting addicted to the raised levels of endorphins I get from the exercise. On my journey home I can cycle most of the way just using the tube to get me out of the most congested areas but on the odd occasion when I have got too tired to cycle all the way home I have phoned my partner when I was within reasonable distance from home and he has driven to meet me and we’ve stowed the folding bike in the boot of the car and I have had a leisurely journey to suit myself and the conditions; I am never late for work these days; and no more griping at the end of the day; a considerable saving in fares and a happier, healthier and fitter me! Another surprise! My partner has bought a folding bike for himself. We go away at the weekend more often now – we drive to our destination taking the bikes in the car which really is hassle-free as they fit in the boot easily and then we are able to cycle about exploring our holiday location and we manage to get off the beaten track. I really do recommend having a fold up bike – that one birthday present has made such a brilliant difference to my life.
